Assam-based Barak Valley Cements (BVCL) plans to set up a 6,000 tpd cement manufacturing facility in either Orissa or Jharkand. The project will entail an investment of Rs.700 crore.
The company has applied for lease of limestone mines to both state governments and plans to rope in a strategic partner for the project. Location of the facility will be finalised within three to four months.
BVCL has finalised a Rs.45 crore expansion plan which includes a 6 MW biomass based captive power plant and increasing capacity of cement from the present 450 tpd to 650 tpd at its existing facility near Silchar.
BVCL markets its product under the brand name Valley Strong Cement in the Barak Valley districts of Silchar, Karimganjj and Hailakandi in southern Assam and also in Mizoram and Tripura.
Demand for cement in the north-east is estimated at 35 lakh tonne per annum and the market is growing at a rate of 15-20%. source: projectstoday
