BADARPUR, Sept 30 – Members of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) staged a dharna and demonstrated along the Indo-Bangla border areas of Karimganj district recently in protest against illegal infiltration.
About 100 ABVP members of different schools and colleges of this border district demonstrated on the bank of river Kushiara against the Bangladesh Government. The ABVP agitators directly blamed the Bangladesh Government for pushing in infiltrators into Indian soil and shouted slogans against the Bangladesh Government.
Border Security Force (BSF) and police personnel present did not debar ABVP members from demonstrating in the no man’s land along the river Kushiara.
During the more-than-three-hour demonstration, the ABVP members in the presence of a large gathering of local villagers vehemently criticised of the Bangladesh Government and urged the Dhaka to stop infiltration for maintaining good relations with India.
Mrinal Kanti Das, who is the president of ABVP’s North-Eastern Zone in his address claimed that excessive infiltration without any hindrance over the years had endangered the entire North Eastern region. While national security was threatened, sovereignty and integration too were jeopardised. Besides serious demographic change in the region, extremist elements and anti-socials too were being pushed into India regularly.
Das sternly urged the Bangladesh government to take strong steps immediately against the hordes of illegal infiltrators. The ABVP organising secretary of southern Assam, Saroj Kumar in his address said due to slackness by the BSF along the border, infiltrators manage to sneak into the country with impurity, for which the North East in general and Assam in particular are suffering regularly.
The demonstration was participated in by the central committee members of ABVP like Sishu Ranjan Das, ABVP president of Karimganj unit, Pranoy Kar, secretary Pinak Das and publicity secretary Bibhash Chandra Das, among others. The Karimganj district BJP president Biswaroop Bhattacharyya, organising secretary Subrata Bhattachayya, general secretary Sudhangsu Das, state vice president of Yuva-Morcha Sudip Chakraborty, and district president Raju Sinha lauded the ABVP members for launching the symbolic protest. source: assam tribune
