Section 144 in Cachar district


Correspondent KARIMGANJ, Oct 2 – With a view to curb the movement of terrorists, anti-social elements and smugglers, the District Magistrate of Cachar, Gautam Ganguly has imposed Section 144 CrPC along the Indo-Bangladesh border in the district.According to the restriction, movement of people within 1 km, of the border and across river Surma and its adjoining areas from 8 pm till sunrise has been declared illegal. Use of boats without the counter signature of the CEO of ZP has also been restricted. However, the circle officer of Katigorah can allow lessees and local people for fishing.The prohibitory order also lays down that from 8 pm till sunrise and within 5 km by the border of Cachar, nobody can carry essential commodities and other materials by rickshaw or cart. This restriction is however not applicable in the case of employees of the Centre or the State in active service. source: assam tribune
