NEW DELHI, Oct 22: Union Minister of State for Shipping, Road Transport and Highways KH Muniyappa informed the Lok Sabha today that the target for four-laning of the Srirampur-Silchar stretch of the East-West Corridor was September 2010, but due to insurgency and law-and-order problems, in the project was delayed. The Union minister was replying to a question raised by AGP MP Arun Kumar Sarma.

The work on the Srirampur-Silchar stretch of East-West Corridor in Asom has already started and the overall progress of the project is 22 per cent, the minister said, and added: “The four-laning of NH-52 from Jamguri to Gohpur has been approved by the Government in-principle, and there is no proposal at this stage to carry out four-laning of existing NH-52 from Baihata Chariali to Jamguri and from Gohpur to Bandardowa.” source: the sentinel assam
