11 nomination papers filed GUWAHATI, March 27 – Union Minister for Heavy Industries Santosh Mohan Dev was among the 11 candidates who filed their nominations today for three parliamentary constituencies of Assam going to polls during the first phase on April 16, reports PTI. Dev filed his nomination as a Congress candidate from the Silchar parliamentary seat, followed by former Union Minister of state for Communication Kabindra Purkayastha of the BJP, CPI(M)’s Dipak Bhattacharjee and Kantimoy Dev of SUCI.
BJP’s Sudhangsu Das along with three other Independents – Raju Das, Asit Roy and Rajesh Roy
– filed their nominations from the Karimganj constituency.
In the Autonomous Hills (ST) constituency, sitting Congress MP Biren Singh Engti, former CPI(ML) MP Jayanta Rongpi, who had represented the constituency for four terms, and BJP’s Kulendu Daulagappu, filed their nominations.
The poll notification was issued on March 23. The last date for filing nominations is March 30, the date of scrutiny March 31 and the last date for withdrawal is April two.
Elections to the remaining 11 seats will be held in the second phase on April 23. ASSAM TRIBUNE
