MLA hires PLA militants in Karimganj, Assam Election

SILCHAR, April 8: An MLA from Karimganj had reportedly hired two PLA militants from Manipur two months back with an intention to revive his political vival. It was reported that Tamij Uddin, a police constable turned dacoit acted as the linkman who helped the PLA militants to come to Karimganj with two grenades and a revolver.

Cadres belonging to a newly formed gang called National Tiger Force who were arrested yesterday had reportedly confessed their role in the entire episode. Gang kingpin Mithu Sarma who had created terror to a section of people by using demand note, was yesterday arrested by the Additional SP PR Kar from Tarapur area of Silchar town. Later, on the basis of Mithu’s confession, Hifzur Rahman, Farooq Ahmed from Ramkrishnanagar and Abdul Hanif from Shanbil of Karimganj were detained.

They were later brought to Silchar PS today for further interrogation. They also confessesed issuing notes demanding money from leading citizens like doctors and the principal of Sonai HS School. A police source informed that small time goons have formed the outfit and were mainly active in highway robbery.

Subsequently they came in contact with Tamij Uddin, a most wanted criminal with link with PLA, a Muslim militant outfit active mainly in Cachar-Manipur border area. The Karimganj MLA had a tacit relation with Tamij and with the help of this policeman turned dacoit, he hired two PLA militants. Tamij recently sustained bullet injuries after being attacked by an army team. The MLA had reportedly arranged for his treatment in a Guwahati based private nursing home.THE SENTINEL
