SILCHAR, April 26: Irate mob blocked the Silchar-Lakhipur Road for at least nine hours protesting the death of a youth who was killed in an accident on Saturday morning. One Botoi Ree (25), was killed when a Sumo (AS-11-E-0910) hit him near DLF power station at Tarapur Tea Estate at 9.30 am on Saturday. Ree succumbed to his injuries while he was taken to the Silchar Medical College and Hospital.
People of the locality blocked the road till night. Later officers from the administration assured them of providing Jeevan Jyoti Prakalpa to the bereaved family. An ex-gratia amount of Rs five thousand was handed over to Ree’s mother. Meanwhile, the driver of the killer Sumo Sonu Bhar, was picked up by police. Later, the local residents lifted the blocked.
