BADARPUR, July 5: In order to conduct the Assam Municipality Election- 2009 smoothly, the election code of conduct has been imposed in Karimganj and Badarpur since July 3. Karimganj district Election Officer in-charge A Nandababu Singha informed this to mediapersons while addressing a press conference at the DC’s conference Hall on last Friday.
According the election chart, the Karimganj Municipality and the Badarpur Town committee elections are scheduled on July 31 next alongwith the rest of the State. The last date for submission of nomination papers is July 13 between 11 am to 3 pm. The nomination papers will be examined on July 15 and the list of the nominated candidates will be published on July 16. The last date for withdrawing nomination is July 18. The election will be held on July 31 from 8 am to 4 pm.
Sources said, if any requirement for re-poll arises, it might be held on August 3. The results will be declared on August 4.
Singha told the mediapersons in the press conference that two ADCs of Karimganj H K Nath and Arunabho Dey have been appointed as Returning Officers of Karimganj Municipality and Badarpur town committee respectively for conducting the election peacefully and smoothly.
Additional police forces will be deployed in Karimganj and Badarpur polling stations for holding the election peacefully said Karimbanj Police superintendent Hemanta Kumar Das in the press meet. ADC H K Nath and Election Officer Arup Pathak were also present in the press meet. SOURCE: THE SENTINEL
