SILCHAR, July 28: An allegation has been levelled against the Silchar Municipality and Bithika Dev for buying a plot of land on July 7, 2006, for Rs 2.30 lakh. It was reported that the land was a donated plot for relief fund. It has been alleged that documents regarding the purchase were not available and no records of purchase of any land has been registered against Silchar Municipality.
Sources said a municipality market complex with a library and auditorium was supposed to be built on the plot. Kanad Purkayastha, son of MP Kabindra Purkayastha, alleged that the proposal was tabled in the Assembly during the tenure of Rajendra Bhrammachari. But, one Uma Banik illegally purchased the plot after Bithika became the chairperson. It is alleged that the controversial purchase has violated Municipal Law No. 63. source:THE SENTINEL
Goala looks into plight of drought-hit farmers
SILCHAR, July 28: Asom Urban Development Minister Dinesh Prasad Goala urged the farmers in Cachar district to contact field officers of Agriculture and Irrigation Department for any help required in this drought-like situation. Goala said this in a district-level meeting held recently to look into the problems of the drought-hit people.
He said the current situation should be settled with the cooperation of Agriculture and Irrigation Department and the people suffering due to water shortage. He also said the farmers will be supplied with pots in order to save standing crops and to boost production. Moreover, the Electricity Department assured that uninterrupted power supply will be provided between 5 am to 7.30 am to run all the lift irrigation schemes in the meeting. source:THE SENTINEL
