UDALGURI, July 6: The BTC regional committee of All Asom Gorkha Students’ Union (AAGSU) discussed the problems ailing the Nepali-speaking community of the region at a special convention held at Udalguri Nepali Chhatravas yesterday.
Besides other issues, the convention also saw the All Asom Gorkha Students’ Union and All Asom Nepali Students’ Union sorting out their differences and uniting once again in the name and style of AAGSU. The BTC region committee of the AAGSU has also been reorganized with Madhav Chhetry as president and Ramesh Dahal as general secretary. The students’ body has further formed the Udalguri district committee with Dipak Dahal as president and Kumar Katowal as general secretary.
More that 300 delegates attended the two-day convention to sort out their differences. After the conclusion of the convention, the jubilant AAGSU leaders convened a press meet to reveal their future plans and programmes.
Talking to mediapersons, the leaders of the BTC unit of the AAGSU said they have decided to resolve the voters problem of the Nepalese people. Terming the ‘All Gorkha Students’ Union’ and its activities in the region as being illegal, the AAGSU leaders asked the youths associated with the organizations to shun the path of violence. The committee also demanded the appointment of Nepali MIL leaders in the proposed Bodoland University. SOURCE: THE SENTINEL
