Police busts car-lifting racket

SILCHAR, July 18: Silchar police have arrested two kingpins of an inter-state car-lifting racket along with their accomplice. One of them has been identified as Baharul Islam Choudhury from Madhurband area.

Baharul, who hails from Jiribam bordering Manipur, has reportedly confessed his involvement in the racket. He further added that the kingpins of the racket have been staying in a hotel in Silchar.

Police later picked up Sanatomba Singh (42) and Nandalal Singh (40) from the hotel. They were both from East Imphal area.

Sources said both Sanatomba and Nandalal have built up a network covering the entire Barak valley, Mizoram and Tripura. Stolen cars were being dispatched to Manipur with the help of Choudhury.

The racket has been active in Barak Valley for the last four months and during this period, a good number of cars were dispatched to Manipur. Sources further said that the network of the racket was expanded throughout the Northeast. SOURCE: THE SENTINEL
