SILCHAR, July 22: Silchar Court was adjourned after a condolence meeting was held on the death of former High Court judge Prasun Dev. Dev died of cardiac attack in the Guwahati Airport on July 20.
Dev hailed from Silchar and he started his career in the Silchar Court in 1967. He was 68. After his retirement in 2003, he settled in Kolkata. Dev had gone to Guwahati to impart training to Legal Department officers but tragically died of a heart attack at the airport.
Dev had assumed the chair of justice at the Gauhati High Court on January 10, 1994. Later, he was transferred to Patna High Court from where he eventually retired in 2003. For the next three years, he was the chairman of the Appeliate Tribunal in Allahabad. He reached Guwahati Airport to participate in the training camp arranged for the Legal officials of the Northeast but just after reaching Guwahati, he died.Dev’s father, Priyanath Dev, was also an eminent lawyer at Silchar court. Prasun Dev’s younger brother Prasenjit Dev is also a practising lawyer in the Silchar court. SOURCE: ASSAM TRIBUNE
125 candidates in fray in Hailakandi

HAILAKANDI, July 22: Altogether 125 candidates are in fray in the Municipality election in both the civic bodies of Hailakandi and Lala for 26 wards. After the last date of withdrawal of nominations against the 16 wards of Municipal Board, 42 candidates are in fray against 10 wards in the Lala Town committee. SOURCE: ASSAM TRIBUNE
