Silchar town roads in dilapidated condition

Correspondent
SILCHAR, July 7 – Heavy rains in Silchar town have made the main roads horrible. The footpaths with numerous potholes in the town are causing a major threat to life for the citizens here.

Dilapidated roads in entire Silchar town has hit the normal life of the public. These roads are creating traffic jams and also problems for the pedestrians. Also, parking lots set up near the pavements have aggravated difficulties.

The roads of Silchar town have been damaged for not having a proper drainage system. In the rainy season the roads become water-logged and thus get damaged. Sources also said that the earlier work done from Capital point to Sonai Road was of poor quality. Many complaints were forwarded but no proper initiative was taken by the concerned department. This implies public consciousness to eradicate the problem which has become a regular phenomenon for the town.

The project of storm water drainage to remove water from the town is not working properly. NBCC, the company looking after the project in Silchar, stopped the project in the middle and shifted its office to Shillong recently for official and political reasons. The ruling political parties spoke about the completion of the storm water project in Silchar but did little for its implementation in the last five years. Many illegal constructions have taken place also in the underground drains of the town, blocking the dirt channels here and there. Administration and the Silchar municipality are complicating matters, making the situation impossible for the people living here.

According to the local people, the quality of the work done has been very poor. The main roads of the town like Shillongpatty, Premtala and Central Road is in a horrible condition. It has become more difficult for the pedestrians to overcome such problems. The monsoon has just started and if the conditions of the roads remain like this, the situation will deteriorate further.
