2013 Durga Puja in Mumbai

Durga puja as the most celebrated among all Bengali Hindus in Mumbai.

We have seen that Puja starts with Birendra Krishna Bhadra's immoral chandipath in the morning on Mahalaya day, the day Ma Durga was assigned the task of eliminating evil.

Durga puja always witness us to visit our native place. People are always eager to go back to home and be with their parents, bothers and sisters. It is grand ocassion when old and new relatives and friends get a chance to meet each other.

There is always a debate as which is the major festival of hindus. There are festivals like Ganesh Chaturthi, Rath Yatra, Janmastami, Diwali, Rakhi Purnima, Maha ShivRatri etc. Communities among hindus prefer a perticular festival as their major festival and it is easy to confess that the most celebrated festival in Bengali Community and other community is Durga Puja.

During Puja children receive gifts from parents like cloths etc and among bengalis it is an annual complusory gift. There is a custom among Bengali hindus that they put on new cloths and worship the divine mother.

The pre-puja days atmosphere in Mumbai is incredibly awesome and the mood of euphoria among the people is just cannot be expressed in words.
