Repair of road to be started soon

SILCHAR, Oct 25: Prior to the 36-hour road blockade called by a platform of various vehicle owners’ associations from Monday morning, Cachar Deputy Commissioner Gautam Ganguly had said that the Malidahar-Katigorah road would be completed to the satisfaction of the passengers as well as to the local people with in one month. Ganguli had made it clear to Pronab Singha, executive engineer of PWD NH division, that he would not entertain any further protest over this issue. Earlier on Friday, Katigorah MLA Ataur Rahman Majharbhuya discussed the pathetic condition of the road with the Deputy Commissioner and sought his intervention. Majharbhuiya was critical about the role played by the NH division of the PWD and branded the road as the ‘Shame of Barak Valley’. It is to be noted that a forum of transporters called a 36-hour road blockade at Katigorah-Malidahor, the entry point to Barak Valley, from Monday morning in protest against government’s indifferent attitude towards renovation of the important road. Meanwhile, Excise Minister Gautam Roy and Karimganj MP Lalit Mohan Suklabaidya had approached Central Surface and Transport Minister Kamal Nath in Delhi, who reportedly assured them of immediate work on the road.
