DHD(J) fears arrest of Hojai

SILCHAR, Nov 27: The militant group DHD (Jewel faction), 305 cadres of which laid down arms on October 2 to join the mainstream, is apprehensive of DHD(J) “commander-in-chief” Niranjan Hojai being arrested soon. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) probing the alleged diversion of funds of the North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council (NCHAC) to the DHD (J) has framed charge-sheet against former NCHAC chief Mohet Hojai and 13 others, including DHD(J) chief Jewel Gorlosa and Niranjan Hojai.

The militant group, which laid down arms after being assured by the government that their demands would be met soon, is disappointed at the inclusion of Hojai’s name in the NIA charge-sheet.

DHD (J) publicity secretary Semson Dimasa has reportedly warned the government that if any of the surrendered leaders are arrested, it will be a breach of trust by the government. He said that the group did not respond to the government’s call to surrender only to be arrested later.

Semson said the surrendered cadres, who are currently living in designated camps, are already facing a tough life as the government has not yet taken any positive steps even after two months of their surrender. He further warned that if the government failed to keep its promise, the situation might turn worse.

On the other hand, Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, during his recent visit to Silchar, said that Central Government emissary PC Halder would hold talks with the DHD (J) soon. THE SENTINEL
