Dinesh Prasad Goala blamed for non-completion of storm water drainage project

SILCHAR, Nov 3: The Nagarik Swartha Suraksha Mancha (NSSM), a civic organization, blamed State Urban Development Minister Dinesh Prasad Goala for non-completion of the Silchar Storm Water Drainage project. The Rs 170-crore mega project was stalled due to indifferent attitude of the National Building and Construction Corporation (NBCC) as well as district administration’s failure to evict the illegal dwellers from the government land.

It was reported that NBCC had finally washed its hand off the project which was a now hanging in uncertainty. Also, only Rs 2 crore was utilized by NBCC from an amount of Rs 17 crore sanctioned as first instalment for the construction of the project.

It has been alleged that Goala, a critic of the project instigated by former Union Minister Santosh Mohan Dev, had earlier stated that the State Government would complete the project as NBCC had left it undone. But till now, no steps from Goala’s side have been taken, alleged Haridas Dutta, general secretary of NSSM. He said Goala had assured that work for the stalled project would begin soon with the remaining Rs 15 crore of the first installment. But Goala is reportedly saying that a fresh Detailed Project Report (DPR) had to be furnished to the Centre.

On the other hand, NSSM members addressing a press meet here clearly stated that Goala was intentionally creating problems for the much awaited project for his own political gains. Dutta said he and other members would gherao the Minister and seek a clear answer from him. “We can’t afford to suffer for the so-called ego clash of two politicians,” said Dutta. THE SENTINEL
