Rotary Club Silchar organizes free heart check-up camp

SILCHAR, Nov 26: A free heart check-up camp was organized by the Silchar Rotary Club recently. The medical camp was attended by cardiologist Dr Nirmal Kumar Bhattacharjee and Dr Swapan Kumar Dey from Apollo Hospital. The free heart check-up camp was presided over by Silchar Rotary Club president N Kar Purkayastha and Silchar Municipality Borad chairperson Susmita Dev attended the camp as guest.

Dr Bhattacharjee, while talking to The Sentinel, said though earlier it was believed that people living in rural areas were free from tension but there has been a significant rise in heart and high blood pressure patients. He said this a matter of grave concern as the number of patients suffering from diabetes, hyper tension etc. have increased.

Dr Bhattacharjee also said that the patients who attended the free medical camp were mainly from the lower economic classes and almost all of them were suffering from cardiac problems. Another reason for cardiac ailment is smoking, Dr Bhattacharjee asserted.

Rotary Club organized the health camp free of cost for all. Altogether 48 patients were given free check-up by the two cardiologists. Rotarians Benulal Barman, Fakhrul Alom Majumdar and Dr Kushal Kar were in charge of the camp and other Rotarians like Shibu Dutta, Ranadhir Bose, Shankar Deb and Chandana Purkayastha took the lead in running the camp smoothly.
