SILCHAR, Dec 1: The All Cachar Karimganj Hailakandi Students’ Association (ACKHSA) along with college students staged a protest demonstration in the Silchar Polytechnic College campus on Monday in protest against the State Government’s move to privatize nine polytechnic and two engineering colleges in Assam. At least 200 agitating college students and ACKHSA activists virtually paralyzed the functioning of the Silchar Polytechnic College by preventing any of the college staff to enter the college.
The agitation began last morning and continued till noon but the college could not resume functioning even after that. The agitating students of the college condemned the government’s decision to privatize the colleges saying that it would become impossible for the poor students to continue studies as private authorities would definitely hike fees.
ACKSHA president Rupam Nandi Purkayastha along with Biswajit Dev and Asit Deb Roy led the agitation which was participated by the students of Tarapur Girls School and Tarapur Vidyapeeth also. THE SENTINEL
