Sontosh Mohan Dev hits back at Gautam Roy

SILCHAR, April 5: Silchar District Congress today virtually warned Excise Minister Gautam Roy not to make further derogatory remarks against former Union Minister Sontosh Mohan Dev. DCC general secretary Arun Dutta Majumder told the mediapersons here today that, Roy’s unpleasant comment against a senior party leader was unwarranted and Congress workers of Silchar would not sit idle anymore. It is to be noted that Roy, on Sunday told in an INTUC meeting that Dev had lost senility after conceding defeat in the last general election. He further accused Dev of duping common people by false promise of broad-gauge project by 2012.
Dev addressing a press meet today countered Roy’s allegations. Dev said, he had written a dozen letters to persons like Prime Minister, AICC President, Planning Commission Chairman, Chief Minister and PWD Minister of Assam for fund for Kalain road. DCC president Karnendu Bhattacharjee also took initiative to get the fund released. But when the fund was released, Roy jumped into the scene and to claim his credit, started vilifying against Dev. Maintaining that he lost the last election only due to inner conflict of the party, Dev said, he wanted to contest the Rajya Sabha election.
Accordingly he contacted Urban Development Minister Dinesh Prasad Goala and the latter assured him support. But when he contacted Roy, the latter rudely rejected his plea. “Roy told me why should I support you? Did you support me when I was in CBI trouble?” Informing this Dev said, he had helped Roy when he was in trouble following CBI inquiry into his alleged role in kidnap and murder of his brother-in-law as well as BJP leader Pratul Dev. Hinting that his daughter Susmita Dev would try to get party nomination in 2014 general election, Sontosh Mohan today said, Susmita was not interested in contesting Assembly election. THE SENTINEL
