Army busts arms and illegal immigration camp

SILCHAR, Jan 19: The 72 Field Regiment on a specific tip–off apprehended Zubir Hussain Laskar (29) and Moinuddin Barbhuiya (33) from the Katlicherra area of Hailakandi district, recently.

According to the army sources, both Laskar and Barbhuiya were involved in the trade of arms, fake currency notes and making arrangements for illegal immigration.

Laskar belongs to village Sultani while Barbhuiya to village Nandagram part-I, both under Katlicherra police station.

The army recovered false stamps and seals of various government agencies including electoral registration officer, besides that of educational institutions form their possession. They also recovered mobile phones containing names of various underground groups.

Blueprints for making of fake Indian currency notes as well as a diary containing contact numbers of militant outfits were found with them.

Both of them have built up a strong base in the bordering areas of Hailakandi district with Mizoram. Taking advantage of the jungle infested areas, they used to smuggle weapons from Mizoram which they supplied to agents who worked as conduits.

The agents on the other hand used to sell them to underground groups and others on commission basis.

Moinuddin, according to the army, arranged false documents of schools and election office duly authenticated by seals and signatures of the persons and officials concerned in order to help the illegal migrants prove and establish their citizenship.

The army has identified a number of people involved in this clandestine and nefarious activities and is trying to expose them and their racket. source: sentinel assam
