Malegarh is making its place in world tourist spots. In a press conference, Barak Valley Bengali Literature and Culture Organization members announced that central government has allotted 20 lakh rupees to convert Malegarh into a tourist spot.
Situated at India-Bangladesh Border, Malegarh was an important centre for the Sepoy Mutiny of 1857. There were a number of martyrs in Malegarh during the revolt. Malegarh had a British treasury unit which was the target of the clash. The remains of the martyrs were left abandoned in the woods near Malegarh without care and attention. Following the countrywide celebration of 150 years of Sepoy mutiny, the Barak Valley Bengali Literature and Culture Organization initiated to revive the lost glory of the courageous acts of the martyrs. The central government was contacted for financial aid to renovate and upgrade Malegarh to the status of a tourist spot.
