“No excuses for delay, please” -- DC Gautam Ganguly

Roads fare worst in review meet
July 7: “No excuses for delay, please” — that was Cachar deputy commissioner Gautam Ganguly’s recurrent answer at a meeting to review the progress of various projects being implemented in the district.

He shot down every reason for delay with the argument that where there was dedication, there could be no reason for delay.

The worst performers at the meeting seemed to be those responsible for construction of various roads in the district.

Ganguly asked the town and country planning department to complete the construction of roads in the Itkhola area of Silchar by July.

He asked the Brahmaputra Board to speed up the construction of Amjur ghat project and Kakrakhal sluice gate, pointing out that the delay in these projects was impeding fencing along the Indo-Bangladesh border.

Ganguly asked the agencies concerned to begin reconstruction of the broken Silchar-Kalain Road, for which the NEC has sanctioned Rs 4.92 crore.

The only department to get kudos was public health engineering, which informed the deputy commissioner that low-cost latrines have been built in 1,500 households at 64 gaon panchayats. Another 88 have been built in lower primary and middle schools. Ganguly suggested that the PHE department should apply for the Nirmal Gram award for having achieved the target of constructing the low-cost latrines on time.

The education department informed the deputy commissioner that 7,353 below poverty line students from 103 provincial schools have been identified for free distribution of cycles. source: telegraph india
