Roy-Dev ego clash resurfaces in Barak Valley
Correspondent Silchar, Nov 25 – As the Lok Sabha elections draw near, Barak Valley is once again witnessing the political heat that prevailed fours years ago between Gautam Roy, State Excise & Border Areas Development Minister and Santosh Mohan Dev, the Union Minister for Heavy Industries & Public Enterprises. This issue has become so interesting for the people of the valley that from the intellectual to the layman everyone is discussing these matters in every nook and corner.Recently in a public meeting , Gautam Roy said , “ I am not Dev’s slave. Dev wants everybody to be his slave. But, no…, I’m not his slave, nor will I ever be,” he said while he was monitoring the development works of the Silchar Medical College. A few days back, Roy was the chief of the governing body at the Silchar Medical College. Roy said that the delay in construction of the main road in Silchar town is creating doubts among the masses. The materials used in this road are of very poor quality. For this he scolded one contactor, Roy said. But the contractor did not bother to listen to him as the latter is Dev’s man, Roy added. The Dev-Roy clash revival occurred when Santosh Mohan Dev appointed Partha Dhar as one of the directors of Cachar Paper Mill , a unit of Hindustan Paper Corporation. The Cachar Paper Mill comes under the constituency of Rahul Roy , son of Gautam Roy. Partha Dhar was appointed to monitor the alleged mafia rule by the contactors lobby, sources said. Santosh Mohan Dev, on the other side,in a meeting at Gandhi Bagh said that he is not going to be bothered with such thing. As a senior politician, he knows every politician in Barak Valley . Dev alleged that the person who is saying such a thing once came to him and said “big brother please rescue from this situation.” An inhuman creature can forget all these things which is really shameful.Interestingly, during the LS election in 2004, Roy had challenged Dev, saying that the latter could not win the election. Those days Roy used to make a daily comment against Dev’s leadership. The situation became critical, as Dev was in constant talks with the leaders in the central party. This ego clash subsided a little when Gautam Roy found himself in big trouble during the CBI investigation into the murder case of Pratul Dev, brother-in-law of Gautam Roy. Santosh Mohan Dev helped him out of trouble by forgetting the earlier agony. After that Roy was praising Dev like anything. This situation continued for some years, but now again it has begun. source: assam tribune
