From our Staff Reporter SILCHAR, Dec 19: A youth was killed when he fell from a concrete bridge while he was riding on his bike near Silchar Medical College and Hospital at Ghungor. The incident occurred yesterday at midnight when Gautam Das (26) a resident of Sonai, was returning home from Silchar and his bike (AS-11-D-1967) hit an iron rod on the bridge. He was severely injured. Meanwhile, the Silchar traffic police and Ghungoor outpost police reached the spot immediately after being informed about the accident. They rescued the victim and rushed him to the Silchar Medical College but unfortunately they met with an accident too. Altogether five of the police personnel sustained injuries. They were Tajammul Haque Laskar, Shibu Kant Dey, Ajoy Nath,Satya Narain Nunisa and the driver of the vehicle Raju Laskar. Amongst which the condition of Dey was stated to be critical. Meanwhile, Gautam succumbed to his injuries in the wee hours on Friday. source: sentinel assam
