GUWAHATI, March 12: The Cachar district unit of the AUDF has named party president Badruddin Ajmal as its candidate for the Silchar Lok Sabha seat even as the Third Front is yet to settle the AUDF-CPI(M) disputes over the Silchar, Tezpur and Barpeta Lok Sabha seats. The constituents of the Third Front — AUDF, CPI, CPI-M, NCP and BPPF — that met in Guwahati on March 10 failed to settle the AUDP-CPI(M) and NCP-CPI disputes over seat-sharing arrangements. Both the NCP and CPI want to field their candidates in the Dibrugarh Lok Sabha seat.
Talking to The Sentinel, NCP general secretary Akshay Rajkhowa said: “The Front has urged the AUDF and the CPI-M to settle their disputes over Silchar, Tezpur and Barpeta seats through talks. The front will meet again on March 18 to finalize the seat-sharing arrangement.”
Talking to The Sentinel, veteran CPI-M leader Hemen Das said: “We have been asked to settle our disputes with the AUDF over the Silchar, Tezpur and Barpeta seats, but we are not going to sacrifice any of these seats. We have already named candidates for Silchar and Tezpur seats, and we are going to name our candidate for the Barpeta seat a well within a day or two.”
Meanwhile, AUDF president Badruddin Ajmal announced recently that Bollywood star Suresh Oberoi is keen on contesting as an AUDF candidate from Asom. THE SENTINEL
