Kabindra, Santosh file nominations for Silchar seat

SILCHAR, March 29 – SM Dev of Congress, Kabindra Purkayastha of BJP and CPM candidate Dipak Bhattacharjee submitted their nomination papers to the Returning Officer, Gautam Ganguli on Friday at the deputy commissioner’s office. While submitting the nomination paper a few incidents took place on the office premises of the Deputy Commissioner.

The two strong candidates, SM Dev and Kabindra Purkayastha, arrivedin the DC office with their supporters for filing nomination for the forthcoming LS election on April 16. In the beginning, SM Dev could not enter the office as the BJP supporters blocked the main entrnace of the office. For this, CRPF personnel had to be deployed to tackle the situation.

On the other hand, while the BJP candidate was coming out of the office. Congres supporters also blocked the main gate. This created a panic situaton in the DC office premises. Amid this tension, Dipak Bhattacharjee, canidate of CPM, also submitted nomination paper.

Briefing newsmen, Gautam Ganguli, the Returning Officer, said that no incident had occurred till now which violated the Code of Conduct. Both candidates entered his chamber with permitted numbers of supporters. Apart from this, as per the Election Commission guidelines, a candidate can be allowed to the office of the Returning Officer with maximum three vehicles. Ganguli clarified this as SM Dev had entered his office premises in a vehicle.

Congress supporters alleged that BJP has misbehaved with their supporters and candidate, SM Dev. Some women BJP supporters were also involved in this. They said that all this happened in front of the SP and other officials.

Meanwhile, AUDF supremo, Badaruddin Ajmal submitted his nomination on Saturday for Silchar LS seat. He submitted his nomination in front of seven MLAs to the Returning Officer at the Deputy Commissioner’s office. After submitting the nomination, Ajmal said that he was committed to eliminating corrupt in Barak Valley. According to him, SM Dev has done nothing for Barak Valley despite being a Union Minister. On the other hand, Kabindra Purkayastha is a weak candidate, Ajmal maintained. ASSAM TRIBUNE
