Hailakandi, March 30: Silchar Sporting Club lifted the B-Division cricket league trophy of the District Sports Association Silchar defeating Tarun Sangha by 53 runs in the day/night final in the Satindra Mohan Dev Stadium in Silchar on Sunday. Winning the toss, Sporting Club decided to bat first and scored 162 runs losing seven wickets in the stipulated 30 overs. Altaf Hussain Choudhury topscored with 43 while Sayed Ali remained not out on 29 runs. Abul Kalam Laskar scored 27 and 22 runs came in as extras. For Tarun Sangha, Mihir Deb captured two wickets for 13 runs. In reply, Tarun Sangha were bundled out for 109 runs in 24.2 overs. Dipu Seal topscored with an unbeaten 29 and another 28 came is as extras. For Sporting, Nitu Das scalped three wickets for 16 runs while G. Talukdar and Altaf Hussain Choudhury shared two wickets each. Altaf Hussain Choudhury was adjudged Man of the Match while Sudip Dhar of Green Hornet was named the Man of the Tournament. The champions and runners-up teams received Rs 3,000 and 2,000 respectively along with the trophies. The president of DSA Silchar, Badal Dey, and its secretary, Babul Hore, gave away the prizes. Rural volleyball Cachar Sporting Club, Satrakandi, Sonai, emerged champions in the All-Barak Valley Rural Volleyball Championship, organised by the District Sports Association Silchar, defeating All Youth Katigorah, Santipur, 25-14, 25-16 in the final at Satindra Mohan Dev Stadium last night. Mehboob Alam Mazumdar was adjudged the Best Player in the final. Ramkrishnanagar Sports Association received the fair play trophy. Altogether12 teams participated in the championship. DSA secretary Babul Hore and office-bearers Nirmalendu Goswami, Sujay Duttaray and Ajoy Chakraborty gave away the prizes. |
