Barak Valley Express attacked

SILCHAR, April 10: A security personnel was killed and 14 others sustained injuries today when militants belonging to the Jewel Garlosa faction of Dima Haolam Daoga (DHD-J) attacked the Barak Valley Express in North Cachar Hills district.

Militants from DHD-J, popularly known as the Black Widow, attacked the Barak Valley Express at Wadrandisa station in the hill district, sources said.

At least 25 to 30 Black Widow militants were on wait at Wadrengdisa railway station. The militants started hurling grenades on the train when the Lumding-bound Barak Valley Express from Badarpur was passing the station at around 2.15 pm. At least four bogies were damaged in the attack. CRPF head constable AK Tenany of 44 Battalion coming from Udaypur in Tripura was killed in the spot, while 14 others sustained injuries. Five of them were in a critical condition. Railway Protection Force (RPF) jawan Dhanesh Buragohain and two women were admitted to Maibong Hospital along with other injured. State DGP GM Srivastava held a meeting at Halflong with top police officials yesterday after an election observer’s convoy was attacked by the militants on Wednesday.

Elections in the district are scheduled for April 16 in the first phase. The incident came close on the heels of serial blasts in the State on Monday in which 10 people were killed. THE SENTINEL
