Hailakandi Lok Sabha Election, AUDF ZP member hackled by Congressmen

HAILAKANDI, April 10: Situation turned violent when AUDF Zila Parishad (ZP) member Rafiqur Rahman Laskar (Dalim) was hackled by Congressmen at Kanchanpur under the Algapur constituency yesterday. Immediately hundreds of AUDF members rushed to the spot from different parts of nearby areas and demolished the Congress election office. As result, few members from both the groups were assaulted and injured. Police rushed to the spot and arrested ZP member Rafiqur Rahman Laskar along with his car. Injured persons were admitted in the SK Roy Civil Hospital. Rahul Roy MLA while visiting the Hospital to inquire the injured Congress workers assured all help. Owing to the clash between the two groups, tension has been prevailing in the area and police patrolling continuing. AUDF spokesman told that, the Congress party workers did not allow AUDF campaign headed by ZP members and started beating AUDF workers and thereby troubles created. On the other hand, Congress Mandal Committee alleged that the attack over Congress election office was a pre-plan and ZP member was directly involved with the game plan. Two FIRs were lodged over the incident–– one from Congress and another from AUDF. This incident is the first political clash between the two parties in the district. Sources close to the top police officials informed that, appropriate measures would be taken against the law breakers.

Meanwhile, AUDF district president Anil Nath and Salim Uddin Barbhuiya, MLA demanded immediate release of the ZP member, otherwise administration would be liable if the situation worsens. THE SENTINEL
