Laxmi Orang fails to impress, Assam Election

SILCHAR, April 11: Laxmi Orang, theAdvasi women who was stripped naked in a tragic incident at Guwahati’s Beltola on November 24, 2007 failed to create much impact to the labourers of tea gardens in Cachar, though she tried her best to convince them to vote for her mentor Badruddin Ajmal. Laxmi, in a number of meetings in various gardens, spoke in Asomiya which the local labourers were not accustomed of. Laxmi alleged that the Tarun Gogoi government had failed to do justice to her. Comparing her trauma with Draupadi of Mahabharata, Laxmi said the Kauravas were ruined and so would be the Congress. She said, Gogoi government had stripped her naked second time when her nomination paper was rejected. Later talking to the mediapersons, Laxmi said, she would fight for attaining ST status for her community. THE SENTINEL
