Major blow to Ajmal, Nadwatut to support Sontosh Mohan Dev

SILCHAR, April 11: AUDF boss Badruddin Ajmal today received a major blow as influential Islamic organization North-East Nadwatut Tamir had openly extended support to the Congress candidate Sontosh Mohan Dev. In a meeting, presided over by district president of the organization Abdur Ranf, the Nadwatut leaders categorically declared the AUDF had miserably failed to fulfil their pledge of working for the minorities. It is to be noted that Nadwatut Tamir was one of the 13 organizations that teamed up to form the AUDF after the IMDT was scraped. Chief of Nadwatut Tamir, Moulana Tayyubur Rahman took active part in the initial stage and in campaigning during the 2006 Assembly election.

In the meeting arranged by Nadwatut Tamir, always tried to do justice to all communities. “Unfortunately, I am always misunderstood as a section of Hindus believe I am appeasing the minorities, and a group of Muslim believe I had stooped to the rise of Muslim leadership in Barak Valley’’, maintaining this Dev urged upon both the communities to make a proper assessment of his work.

Nadwatut leader as well as son of famous Moulana Jaliluddin, HR Osama Madrus said, the AUDF had betrayed the minority as the 10 party MLA’s had failed to raise voice for the minorities in the Assembly.

Nadwatut leaders said, the way Ajmal treated with Moulana Tayyubur was deplorable as he had shown little respect by taking the advice of the Moulana declaring his candidates in Silchar. Ajmal had reportedly informed the Moulana about his decision to contest in Silchar seat only after filing his nomination. This had hurt the Moulana and he had decided not to campaign for the AUDF, a Nadwatut leader said.

It is to be noted that Nadwatut Tamir is an influential Muslim organization in Barak Valley. The AUDF MLA from Katigorah Moulana Ataur Rahman was an active member of this organization. Dev had gained a major hurdle today. Earlier, Cachar Jumiat had also reserved his decision of supporting Ajmal, who is interestingly the state president of this powerful organization. THE SENTINEL
