Imphal/Silchar, April 18: Repolling in four booths in Outer Manipur and five polling stations in Karimganj and Silchar constituencies of Assam passed off peacefully today.
Voters turned out in large numbers since early morning at the four booths in Outer Manipur. Repolling was ordered at Nungshong Khullen in Ukhrul district, Dolang Khunou in Senapati, Tamenglong HQ A and Tuibuong in Churachandpur which witnessed snatching and damage to electronic voting machines during Thursday’s poll.
Nine candidates are in the fray in the Outer Manipur seat from where Independent MP Mani Charenamai is seeking re-election. The Congress has fielded Thangso Baite.
The other candidates are M. Yamkhongam (RJD), Thangkhangin Ngaite (Lok Janashakti Party), L.B. Sona (NCP), D. Loli Adanee (BJP), besides Independents Rose Mangshi Haokip, Lamlalmoi Gangte and Valley Rose Hungyo.
Adequate security measures were taken for a smooth repoll in five polling stations in Assam.
While 62 per cent votes were cast at two polling stations of Silchar parliamentary constituency, 50 per cent turnout was recorded at three polling stations in Karimganj.
Election office sources said there was an average of 49 per cent voting today in the three booths in Hailakandi district. In Cachar, there was a wide divergence in voting figures with the booth at Borthal tea estate recording nearly 73.5 per cent polling. Fifty-two per cent voting was recorded at Hatiloma LP School under Borkhola block.
