Tension in Bara Masjid over Ajmal issue

SILCHAR, April 17: AUDF candidate Badruddin Ajmal might have left Silchar a day before the election but his shadow looms large over the Muslim community even a day after the polling as the supporters and the anti-party were engaged in fisticuffs in the Bara Masjid compound in heart of the town today.

Tension gripped the Masjid complex so much so that police had to arrive, though timely intervention by some cool headed persons including former minister Misbahul Islam Laskar, who was the president of the Masjid committee as well as the state chief of the Congress minority cell. An insider informed that Ajmal was not properly treated when he visited the Masjid on Tuesday evening. Even the office chamber of the Masjid committee was not opened for him as the caretaker reportedly told him that he had to take permission from the committee.

Laskar, when came to know of the incident immediately asked the caretaker to open the room but Ajmal had already left the Masjid compound and sat in a nearby tea stall to talk with some journalists. He however did not disclose the matter to the scribes. Today the supporters of Ajmal who assembled at the Masjid for Jumma Namaz charged the secretary of the Masjid committee. THE SENTINEL
