Black Widow renews peace offer

SILCHAR, May 7: Facing two prolonged attacks from security forces as well as a splinter group, the Dimasa militant outfit Black Widow had reportedly sent feelers to the Government renewing its earlier offer of ceasefire, a reliable source indicated. Black Widow made a spate of attacks on running trains in the Hill section of the NF Railway killing a jawan and injuring a dozen other, forcing the railway authorities to disrupt train service for 19 days.

The incidents occurred just prior to the first phase of general election in the state on April 16 and continued for at least one week. NF Railway general manager Ashutosh Swami had intimated the development in the Hills section to the Railway Ministry during his recent visit to Delhi and reportedly expressed dissatisfaction over the State Government’s steps for security arrangement in the hill section.

A source informed that two additional battalions of army along with a commando group would be deployed very soon for an all-out attack against James Dimasa. The source said, the ASDC, the party that had been ruling the Autonomous District Council was crippled as its chief executive member Mohit Hojai had been absconding following the charge of funding the Black Widow against him.

Black Widow, in a desperate bid to make its presence felt, resorted to senseless killing during the election. But now sensing that the Government was akin to tighten the noose the militant outfit now seems to have felt it urgent to renew its ceasefire offer. Another source hinted that Dispur was utilizing the splinter group of Black Widow, led by James Dimasa who deserted the parent outfit with almost 60 cadres a few months back, reducing the strength of Black Widow between 120 to 150.

On the other hand, Black Widow is now facing the fury of the common men at a massive rally, attended by not less than 5,000, in Harangajao, a small town on Tuesday. The rally condemned the Black Widow for its mindless violence. THE SENTINEL
