SILCHAR, May 18: The cop-turned-dacoit Tamizuddin Laskar now aims to join politics, the proverbial last resort of criminals. Tamiz, who was under the Udharbond police custody for the last four days, was produced in the court today and on the basis of a plea from the Katigorah police he was sent to their custody for another two days. Katigorah police wanted Tamiz for a robbery case.
Meanwhile, Tamiz said to the local press that he would contest in the next Assembly election either from his home constituency Udharbond or from Sonai. Tamiz had reportedly admitted in front the police that he had received money from South Karimganj MLA Siddique Ahmed as advance for killing the latter’s political rivals. Tamiz had elaborately described the entire episode to the interrogating officer of the police and his confession was reportedly videographed, a source said.
Tamiz however avoided a direct answer saying that he was tired and could not remember the details of the deals but did not deny that he had links with Ahmed.
It is to be noted that Ahmed on Friday told mediapersons in Silchar that he was being made a scapegoat by a coterie of Excise Minister Gautam Roy, though Roy was not involved in the conspiracy.
Ahmed further claimed that he had never met Tamiz and the question of engaging him to eliminate his political rivals did even arise. THE SENTINEL
