SILCHAR, May 10: Congress had no chance of winning the Silchar and Karimganj seats as the people of Barak Valley had expressed deep rooted resentment over the feudalism of the ruling Congress party for years. If the Congress comes out with success in these two constituencies, the people of the valley would be compelled to revolt against them. Stating this, AGP central committee leader and former Minister Sahidul Alom Choudhury said this in a press meet held at his Silchar residence. He cautioned the Congress to get prepared for public ire if the ruling party manipulates the EVMs in Silchar and Karimganj. Sahidul said, in Silchar, the main fight would be between the BJP and the AUDF, and the former was in an advantageous position. The Congress would be in the third position. In Karimganj, AUDF had a better chance to win, and Congress would be its main rival. Refuting the charge of religious polarization, Sahidul Alom, who lost the Algapur Assembly seat to his arch rival Gautam Roy’s son Rahul, said this time people of Barak Valley unitedly voted against the feudalism of the ruling party.
Making attack on Algapur MLA Rahul Roy, Sahidul Alam said the Congress was playing dirty games with the SC community fishermen of Silchar Malini Beel who were accused of mob violence on the residence of Congress leader Partha Ranjan Chakraborty. The AGP leader said, Rahul is now shading crocodile’s tear for the fishermen community generally known as kalbarta.
However, a police source linked the entire design with the apprehension raised by Dey about the militant attack. The source, on the condition of anonymity said police and intelligence were seriously examining the apprehension of militant attack on the strong room as expresed by chief agent of the BJP candidate. Was it a mere pressure tactic on the administration? Was it a well-knit conspiracy to create an environment of doubt over the transparency of the administration? If Dey had some authentic information, he should have shared the same with the police and administration so that any such attack could be averted. THE SENTINEL
