SILCHAR, May 11: Sunday night’s massive storm has eventually taken Barak Valley out of gear as reports from the entire electricity network failure from every nook and corner of the valley were pouring in. Sources said that ASEB failed to specify any schedule when the normal power supply could be restored as almost all the three KV high tension lines along with posts were uprooted.
Sources said a tower in the Karbi-Langpi power station was also damaged. On the other hand, Pachgram sub-station suffered major damage.
Meanwhile, a security guard with the ASEB’s Pailapool sub-station was admitted in the Silchar Medical college along with his entire family as a big tree fell on his quarter at Labok under Lakhipur. The security guard Bir Kumar Sinha (51), his wife Sorojini Sinha (45), son Biplob (18) and daughter Mamoni were rescued by the neighbours at midnight and were immediately rushed to SMC by 108 Ambulance.
Condition of Sorojini was stated to be very critical. Meanwhile, normal life of Silchar was completely out of gear as incessant power-cut resulted in scarcity of drinking water.
Even inverters failed to work. In Shillong patty areas, electric wires and posts were seen uprooted till the evening. ASEB sources informed that their mechanics were deputed in the sub-stations so that power supply could be restored first.
It would take at least one more day to restore normalcy in Silchar, a source uniformed. A police source said, security has been provided in various power stations assuming that irate mobs might demonstrate in front of the electricity office. THE SENTINEL
