SILCHAR, May 13 – Silchar police recently nabbed a cop-turned dacoit in a secret search operation at Lydrimbai in Meghalaya. Additional SP PR Kar along with his team caught Tamiz Uddin Laskar who used to run a militant organisation named as Barak Liberation Front. Tamiz confessed to the Silchar Police that he had several links with many militant organisations in Assam and also with some political person.
Tamiz joined Assam Police in 1985 and rendered service to the organisation. He earned good reputation during his period. But he created some enemies with the organisation. Tamiz alleged that being the PSO of the then SP Pallab Bhattacharjee, he unearthed some rackets of smugglers who had secret links with some of his colleagues. Silchar Police said that the Tamiz has stated that he had a good relationship with south Karimganj MLA Siddique Ahmed who paid a huge amount to him to remove his political mentor as well as former State Minister Muktadir Chowdhury, who had won from his constituency two times.
Siddique Ahmed, however, said that the dacoit has falsely taken his name. Ahmed completely denied Tamiz’s statement about links with him. He also said that he had never met Tamiz and it is a political conspiracy hatched up by his rivals. Ahmed who won the election as an independent candidate later became a associate Congress MLA.
Silchar Police had last month cautioned Muktadir Chowdhury many times about at possible attack on him. Cachar Additional SP PR Kar admitted that call was made from the mobile phone of Tamiz. ASSAM TRIBUNE
