SILCHAR, May 13: The National School of Drama organized a 20-day workshop for the young talents of the Barak Valley. The workshop was formally inaugurated by eminent cultural personality of Silchar Ananta Deb on Tuesday at Silchar BT College. Vijay Kumar of NSD was the director of the workshop. Kumar in his speech stressed on the revival of traditional folk art which is on the wane due to cultural aggression of the west. Kala Academy chairperson Dolan Chapa Das Paul said that it was indeed a matter of pride for their organization that NSD had organized the workshop for the budding artists of the valley. NSD had earlier conducted two workshops in Silchar, mainly for the children. Secretary of the Academy Santanu Paul said that NSD would organize a separate workshop for the children from July 1 to July 15. THE SENTINEL

HAILAKANDI, May 13: The two-day Rabindra Jayanti programme concluded here under the aegis of Barak Upatyaka Sanga Sahitya-O-Sanskriti Sammelan (BUBSS) in association with the Rabindra Bhavan Trust recently. The programme included garlanding of the statue of Rabindra Nath Tagore followed by a discussion on his life and teachings.
N Bhattacharyee, S Parkayastha, Ashutosh Das, R Ahmed, AK Paul, PC Nath among others were present in the programme. Different competitions among school students including a sit-and-draw, dance, songs, recitation and other events took place in the competition. A cultural programme was also held in this connection.
