Pineapple growers facing miscreant problem

HAILAKANDI, June 5: United Democratic Liberation Army (UDLA) headed by Dhanyaram Reang, the breakaway group ULFBV of Panchayat Apeto Reang now in the southern part of the district, has created tension among the people by allegedly kidnapping, collecting taxes and other such crimes. The growers of pineapple in Garod Punji, Kalidaspunji, Remapunji, Senapunji, Teapunji under Kathcherra PS are facing immense trouble and have virtually compromised with the outfit for security and to refrain from losses. Garodpunji, the second largest pineapple production centre of Barak Valley, is now in great trouble and they are contemplating more losses and thereby thinking about the next season as to whether they should go for production or switch on to business said a spokesman.
