Foreigners Tribunal issues notice to 16 at Silchar

SILCHAR, July 15: At least 16 Kaibortya residents of the sensitive Malinibeel area at Silchar received notice from the Foreign Tribunals. Sachindra Das, Rathindra Das, Minarani Das and Rinabala Das were among the 16 who were issued notices by the Tribunals on July 3 to prove their credential as Indian citizens. The issue has become a sensitive one with Tapabon Nagar–Malinibeel Nagarik Suraksha Committee threatening to launch a vigorous agitation. Haripada Chakraborty, president of the committee, alleged that poor people of Kaibortya community have become a victim of vengeance as they were ‘falsely’ implicated in the incident of attack on the residence of Congress leader Partha Ranjan Chakraborty just after the recent Lok Sabha elections. Chakraborty, when contacted, said he was not at all aware of serving such notices to the slum dwellers. The border branch of the district police is completely ignorant of the development.
