East-West Corridor

NEW DELHI, July 15: Union Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways RPN Singh admitted the delay in completion of the four-lane East-West Corridor due to negligence on the part of Asom Government. Replying to a question from AGP MP Kumar Deepak Das, the Union minister said: "The work of four-laning from Silchar to Srirampur as part of East-West Corridor under NHDP Phase-II has been delayed in Asom mainly due to delay in land acquisition, shifting of utilities and cutting of trees, besides poor law-and-order situation in N C Hills district." On same issue, Minister for Road Transport and Highways Kamal Nath informed the House that there were a lot of lapses that impeded the progress of East-West Corridor work. SOURCE: THE SENTINEL
