Karimganj admn gears up for civic polls



BADARPUR, July 29 – The Karimganj deputy commissioner, at an all party meeting, held at the Karimganj police super conference hall Saturday last, assured all political parties that the district administration of Karimganj is all geared up for the upcoming civic polls on July 31.

Dr M Angamuthu, DC, in his speech, stressed the need to follow the model code of conduct by the political parties and the contesting candidates. In order to hold a smooth and peaceful election in the various wards of Karimganj and Badarput town, all necessary steps had been taken.

The DC also added that the votes would be cast in the form of ballot paper instead of electronic voting machines (EVMs), from 8 am to 4 pm. The ballot papers would reach the polling stations on the day of election.

Angamuthu told that he would be actively involved in the inspection of the entire situation of Karimganj and Badarpur town polling stations alongwith the ADMs. The civic polling election officer (i/c), A Nandababu Singha, in his address, said that the counting of the votes would be done at the Karimganj Government Higher Secondary School from 8 am on August 4. The results would be declared on the same day itself.

The Karimganj additional deputy commissioner, HK Nath explained in detail about the election expenditure of contesting candidates, definite rules and regulations of the election campaign, election code of conduct, etc as per the Election Commission order.

The additional police superintendent, Hemanta Kumar Das, spoke about the security arrangements in his address. According to him, the entire Karimganj and Badarpur town would be kept under tight security to prevent any untoward incidents.

ASP, HK Das informed that special arrangements had already been made by the police in the ‘sensitive’ and ‘hyper-sensitive’ places of the two towns, for a smooth running of the July 31 election. SOURCE: ASSAM TRIBUNE
