GUWAHATI, July 27: The Minister of State for Railways E Ahamed stated in the Rajya Sabha recently that altogether 292 kms of Railway construction have been completed in the entire Norteastern region during the last five years. These includes Manu-Agartala of Kumarghat-Agartala New Line (89kms), Samuktala-New Bongaigaon of New Jalpaiguri-New Bongaigaon Gauge Conversion (61kms), Senchoa-Silghat Gauge Conversion- (62kms) and Alipurduar-Bamanhat Gauge Conversion (80kms). Construction of 10 new lines in progress are the Jiribam-Imphal, Azra-Byrnihat, Dimapur-Zubza (Kohima), Bogibeel Bridge, Dudhnoi-Depa, Harmuti-Itanagar, New Maynaguri-Jogighopa, Agartala-Sabroom, Bhairabi-Sairang and Sivok-Rangpo projects. The five gauge conversion projects under these are— Lumding-Silchar-Jiribam and Badarpur to Kumarghat, Rangiya-Murkongselek, Kathakal-Bhairabi, Haibargaon-Mairabari and New Jalpaiguri-Siliguri-New Bongaigaon.
