Snatch-and-run cases on the rise in Silchar

SILCHAR, July 25: In what can be said as another incident of snatch-and-run case, Rs 50,000 was taken away from a person while he was on his way to the Central Bank to prepare a draft amount. The victim is a volunteer of the Ramakrishna Mission.

The incident occurred when the person was going to the Central Bank after withdrawing the amount from the United Bank to prepare a draft of the money. But he was intercepted in the middle by two lads who were riding a motorcycle. Sources said the motorcycle borne youths snatched the bag containing the cash from the victims and sped away.

The incident is a fresh addition to the already long list of many such snatch-and-run cases which are on the rise in Silchar. Many people are falling easy prey to the miscreants’ unprecedented move.

Sources said the victims report the loss of their cash between their way from the bank and their destination. They said the snatchers are probably professionals.

Moreover, these cases are not new in Silchar as many cases have taken places here. But, the police have not been able to take any proper action on the case. The people here reported that the police were neglecting their duties and, therefore, their existence is in question.

However, police officials said that strategies are being implemented to arrest the criminals red-handed and they are expecting some good results shortly.

Sadar Thana OC SK Chauhan claimed that the criminals cannot be outsiders, but some local people are engaged in unlawful activities who are trying to save the miscreants from being caught. SOURCe: THE SENTINEL
