SILCHAR, Aug 11 – The district Congress president Karnendu Bhattacharjee at a press meet said that the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) would decide the candidate for the post of Silchar Municipal Board chairperson. But he will certainly propose the name of Susmita Dev, granddaughter of Satindra Mohan Dev and daughter of Santosh Mohan Dev, former Union Minister and Bithika Dev, MLA of Silchar.
Susmita won the civic polls from Ward No 27 with a margin of 1,500 votes and has been projected as the next chairperson of the board. But Susmita was opposed by a group of members for the concerned post. According to them, Susmita is a new entrant in politics and they were looking for an experienced person.
Meanwhile, State Urban Development Minister Dinesh Prasad Gowala earlier said that Sudip Dutta, ex-vice -chairman of Silchar Municipal Board is a better choice from the Congress party. Dutta, aged 55, has remarkable contribution and experience in the field of politics for a long time. But unfortunately Dutta lost the battle by a narrow margin. ASSAM TRIBUNE
