SILCHAR, Aug 12: An amount of Rs 8.65 crore was distributed to about 2,636 farmers as loan in a credit delivery camp organized by the United Bank of India (UBI) in Silchar, yesterday.
According to a press release, Rs 1.5 crore among the total amount was distributed to 375 farmers under the Kishan credit card scheme while Rs 1.67 crore was distributed to 2,220 self Help Group beneficiaries. The loan was distributed by 17 branches of the UBI situated in different parts of Cachar district.
Cachar Deputy Commissioner Gautom Ganguly, while speaking at the credit delivery camp, lauded the efforts of UBI and said that this bank has been selected by Khadi Commission, Mumbai, as the best bank under PMEGP in NE region for the National Award 2009. He urged the borrowers to repay the loan on time. This would pave the way for getting more loans in the future, he said.
Former MP Kamalendu Bhattacharjee, Dr Kushal Kar, Deputy Director of Information and public relations (Barak Valley Region) Asom Haran Dey and Subdivisional Agriculture Officer US Laskar also addressed the function.
Cachar region UBI chief regional manager Ajit Kumar Sen said: “So far, 1,452 branches of UBI have been migrated to core banking system and the remaining 355 branches of the bank will be migrated to core banking system by September, 2009.” THE SENTINEL
