BADARPUR, Aug 5 – The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) which had ruled the Badarpur Civic Board for a period of 15 years at a stretch finally bit the dust, receiving a thrashing at the hands of the Congress which captured all the wards of the town, creating history for the party unit. Similarly in the Karimganj Municipality, the Congress got 14 wards out of the 27, the rest going to BJP (6) and Independent (7). Congress sources attributed the massive victory of the party to the people’s wish to see massive development of Badarpur town which could only be possible under it as its predecessor had done nothing at all for the town’s development. However, the BJP said that the Congress had won the elections by massive rigging, giving false promises and distributing money.
Meanwhile, the victorious party took out a colourful procession through the four wards of the town. The participants shouted slogans in support of the winning candidates – Lucky Roy (Ward No. 1), Raghu Nath Bhuiyan (Ward No. 2), Babli Das (Ward No. 3) and Chandan Lal Sen (Ward No. 4) and Barak Valley strongman and Minister Gautam Roy.
