SILCHAR, August 1: A delegation of the Nikhil Bishnupriya Manipuri Mahasabha (NBMM) met Silchar Doordarshan Director Sakya Sundar Dhar recently and submitted a memorandum to him demanding regular broadcast of Bishnupriya Manipuri programmes from Doordarshan Silchar Centre. The unit also handed over the census report of the Mahasabha on the Bishnupriya Manipuri population to the Director.
Dhar assured the Mahasabha members that regular programmes on Bishnupriya Manipuri culture would be broadcast from Silchar Doordarshan centre soon. The unit was led by NBMM president Dr Debendra Sinha. Other members of the team were NBMM’s cultural committee central president Jogendra Sinha, NBMM’s principal secretary Uday Sinha and State general secretary Swapan Sinha. THE SENTINEL
Miscreant arrested in Jirighat

SILCHAR, August 1: Troops of the Assam Rifles apprehended one Fazlur Rahman (31) alias Abbas from Jirighat market area in Cachar district recently. Sources said Abbas is a resident of Thambal Moizing, Manipur and is an ASEB employee. The miscreant was later handed over to Jirighat Police Station. A hand-made revolver and four rounds of bullets were recovered from him. At present, he is under police remand in Silchar sadar police station. THE SENTINEL
